His connection to Dexter goes way back.

Season 1 of the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin recently concluded with Episode 10. The action takes place in 1991, 15 years before the events of the original Dexter.

As it turns out, Brian Moser, whom Dexter will only meet in the original show, played an important role in Dexter's life back then.

Harry Morgan Investigated the Case of Brian Moser

Dexter Morgan had just started working in the Miami Police Department's forensics unit, hunting criminals in the meantime. Harry and the future new police captain Maria LaGuerta investigate a series of murders. At first glance, the victims seem to be killed by different criminals.

However, the detectives determined that there was one madman behind it all, at the beginning of his dark path, trying to find his signature. One of the victims was a psychotherapist – among his documents Harry found files on Brian Moser.

The detective hid them from Maria in order to understand the man's involvement personally, as Brian is Dexter's brother. At the time of the events in Original Sin, Dexter does not know that he is an adopted child.

Dexter And Brian Are Brothers Who Witnessed Their Mother's Murder

In the past, Harry worked with Laura Moser, the mother of Dexter and Brian. The woman was involved with a drug dealer who was Dexter and Brian's biological father and died at Brian's hands in Dexter.

To avoid prison, Laura agreed to become a police informant. Harry hoped to find hard evidence to arrest a key figure in the drug cartel. Laura was exposed – largely because of her affair with Harry.

Laura and others who crossed the Mafia's path were killed by dismemberment with a chainsaw. It all happened before the eyes of young Dexter and Brian. In 1974, when the brothers lost their mother, Dexter and Brian were 3 and 8 years old, respectively.

Brian Was Sent to a Mental Hospital as a Child Because of His Excessive Aggression

Harry and his wife Doris adopted Dexter and Brian. However, Brian proved to be too aggressive – he almost strangled little Debra because she was crying in her crib.

Brian was eventually sent to a mental hospital, where he spent his childhood. In each new family, Brian was bullied. This – combined with the death of his mother and the separation from his brother – broke Brian's psyche.

In the Original Series, Brian Is a Madman Nicknamed The Ice Truck Killer

In the first season of Dexter, Brian appeared as a madman nicknamed The Ice Truck Killer. He became a prosthetist and became close to the Morgan family under the name Rudy Cooper.

He began dating Debra and wanted to kill her – he believed she was a bad influence on Dexter. With his crimes, he hoped to lure his younger brother to his side. He didn't like the fact that Dexter followed the Code even after Harry's death.

Brian Moser Will Appear in Season 2 If It's Confirmed by Showtime

In Episode 10, Harry found Brian on a rooftop not far from the scene of another murder. Harry told Brian that his appearance in Dexter's life could destroy his younger brother's psyche.

Harry tried to arrest Brian, but Brian knocked him out and ran away. Brian wrote "You're right" in blood on the door. Brian loves his brother, so he won't bother him while he's happy in his foster home.

However, in the last scene, Brian saw Dexter and Debra dancing in a cafe, which means he will continue to follow his brother and wait for the right moment to reunite.

Dexter franchise creator Clyde Phillips said he plans to bring Brian back in Season 2. Brian will not meet Dexter until after the events of Dexter, but he will continue to follow his brother and commit crimes that will attract Harry's attention.

A second season of Dexter: Original Sin has not been confirmed, but the series premiere was Showtime's most-watched, and Clyde Phillips hopes to continue telling Dexter's backstory.
