Netflix’s hit teen drama series had no updates in the couple of recent years, and there’s a reason why you shouldn’t expect to hear about Sex Education further.
A lot is happening on Netflix right now, with more new shows coming and going, though no news has been heard about Sex Education recently.
The teen sex drama show has never come back after its fourth season released back in 2023, but here’s the real reason in case you somehow missed out on it.
Sex Education was actually never meant to go further than four seasons, with the last released instalment wrapping the story entirely.
In fact, Sex Education’s finale came together kinda on its own, so the show’s creators saw this as a sign that there was no way further.
Why Did ‘Sex Education’ End After Season 4?

To many, it did seem like the show’s storyline could keep exploring the characters’ life after they graduate from Cavendish Sixth Form College and go their separate ways.
However, Sex Education’s creator Laurie Nunn felt like the series concluded its story itself without her and her team making an additional effort.
“In my mind I always felt like I could just write these characters forever and ever. Letting them go has been painful and I think I'm still processing that. But it happened very organically: when we did the writers’ room for season four we didn't set out for it to be the final series”, Nunn revealed in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar back in 2024.
Apart from that, Sex Education, despite its immense popularity, still made many of its leading cast members feel like they were stuck in one and only show’s production without much time to dedicate to other potentially successful projects.
And so that was the wrap, allowing the show to leave without any cliffhangers or shocking plot twists that would force the storyline into more development.

Like many other TV projects that Netflix can boast of, Sex Education turned into a start point for the launch of its actors’ careers, with many of them going way further than just one notable role.
After the series’ wrap in 2023, Asa Butterfield went on to star in a Christmas romantic comedy Your Christmas or Mine? and its sequel, Emma Mackey was seen in a brief role of Physicist Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, Ncuti Gatwa is the new Doctor in BBC’s longstanding sci-fi series Doctor Who while Aimee Lou Wood has recently starred in one of the leading roles in The White Lotus’ season 3.
