The first season of the spinoff has ended, so it's time to recap the finale and speculate about Dexter's future.

In the final episode of Season 1 of Dexter: Resurrection, Dexter's actions determined not only his future as a vigilante maniac but also influenced the search for the elusive New York Ripper.

Let's explore why Dexter turned the infamous killer in to the police and how he will use the dossier on the killers in Season 2.

Which Maniac Will Dexter Kill Next?

In Dexter: Resurrection, the main character poses as serial killer Red Schmidt and infiltrates a club of killers assembled by billionaire Leon Prater.

Dexter kills almost all of its members, except for an escaped serial killer nicknamed Rapunzel. Wanting to become Dexter's partner, Prater takes Dexter's former colleague, Angel Batista, hostage.

When Dexter refuses to cooperate, Prater kills Batista and locks Dexter in a storage facility. Dexter escapes with the help of his son and kills Prater.

Before leaving, Dexter takes the dossiers that Prater had collected on other serial killers, including Rapunzel, the Midnight Mangler, Al Walker, and the Yonkers Slayer.

The final scene, where Dexter breaks the fourth wall, symbolizes his return to his true nature.

Franchise creator Clyde Phillips is planning a second season in which Dexter will likely begin hunting the serial killers from Prater's file. His first target will most likely be Rapunzel.

Will Dexter Be Charged With Angel's Murder?

Harrison worked at the hotel where he killed a rapist. Tormented by remorse, Harrison decided to become a police officer, a decision that Dexter supported. Detectives Wallace and Oliva investigated the murder.

Suspicion fell on Harrison, but Dexter framed another killer, Mia LaPierre. LaPierre was later killed on Prater's head of security Charley's orders.

After killing Prater, Dexter staged his escape. He hid the body and left a gun with Prater's fingerprints in the storage room next to Batista's body.

The police will probably officially close the case, recognizing Prater as both a murderer and an escaped criminal. Dexter will not be brought into the case, and Charley, who quit and left, is unlikely to turn him in.

However, Detective Wallace, who knows that Angel Batista suspected Dexter of being the Bay Harbor Butcher, may continue her unofficial investigation.

Additionally, Angel's colleagues in Miami, particularly Joey Quinn, will learn of his death. Quinn may begin hunting Dexter due to personal motives, now that Dexter is officially recognized as alive.

Who Was the New York Ripper & Why Did Dexter Choose Not to Kill Him?

Dexter didn't take all of Prater's files, leaving some behind to prove the billionaire's criminal activity.

Among the files left behind was the case of the New York Ripper, one of the city's most brutal serial killers. Detective Wallace had spent years trying to catch him.

Dexter had previously helped her indirectly by identifying, from a crime scene photo, that the killer's weapon resembled a hook – a clue he had seen in Prater's collection. Thus, the file on Don Framt became a kind of gift and a sign of Dexter's respect for Wallace.

This gesture could complicate Wallace's future investigation on Dexter, since it helps her close cases.
