The Peaky Blinders actor was long rumored to join the cast of HBO’s Harry Potter series in one of the most anticipated roles. We’re breaking down all the saying about Cillian Murphy and whether they turned out to be true.

Things have been moving forward pretty quickly for HBO’s Harry Potter reboot show recently, with the production commencing this week and the leading ensemble gathering in the UK for the first season filming.

Despite the instalment’s initial release date being slated for 2026, HBO has recently announced that they will be pushing the premiere to 2027, probably due to all the casting issues that lasted for months before the leading cast was revealed.

Apart from many other rumours surrounding the next Harry Potter adaptation, there’s been a lot of saying about some pretty prominent actors potentially joining the series in major roles, including the star of Peaky Blinders and Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy.

However, the actor’s possible involvement will remain a mystery for at least a couple of years now.

Was Cillian Murphy Cast for ‘Harry Potter’ Series?

So far, nothing was confirmed about the actor’s potential participation in the show which he also never addressed himself.

The buzz was first started by the Harry Potter fandom months ago when many claimed that Murphy would be a perfect candidate for the role of Voldemort, previously portrayed by Ralph Fiennes.

The talks eventually went so loud that the latter was the one to address the ongoing rumour, saying that he would be glad to see Murphy taking over his role.

“Cillian is a fantastic actor. That’s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favor of Cillian. Yeah”, Fiennes said during an interview on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live back in December.

HBO Has Already Found Its Voldemort — We Won’t Know Whether It’s Cillian Murphy for at Least 2 Years

As some outlets reported just days ago, an insider close to Harry Potter’s production team has revealed that HBO has already found an actor to portray Voldemort, with the character set to appear in the first instalment’s several episodes.

The bigger problem is that the studio will be doing everything possible to keep the actor’s identity secret until the first season is released sometime in 2027.

That said, whether fans’ dreams about Cillian Murphy as Voldemort did in fact become true or not, we won’t know for sure who exactly will play the entire story’s biggest villain in the new series for at least a couple of years, if the first season’s premiere won’t be delayed once again.
