Simon Helberg went through quite a process to get his hair right for his role in The Big Bang Theory.

"Did Simon Helberg wear a wig playing Howard Wolowitz?"

That's a question every viewer of The Big Bang Theory asked themselves at least once, watching Howard's full head of hair.

It is a legitimate question too, considering how well the character of Howard was developed. With his iconic skinny jeans, turtlenecks paired with shirts, and a bowl haircut with sideburns, the character never had a hair out of place. So it is only natural to assume that the famous Beatles haircut is actually a wig.

Even Big Bang Theory Creator Hated This Controversial Storyline

Imagining today anyone else playing the roles of the beloved Big Bang characters makes your hair stand on end. But in some parallel universe, Jim Parsons was rejected for being too perfect in his audition, Johnny Galecki plays Sheldon instead of Leonard, Kaley Cuoco portrays someone called Katie, and Simon Helberg never even made it to the audition.

All these hair-raising things could really happen. Helberg told The Hollywood Reporter that he was working on another project at the time of the audition, so his chances of going there hung by a hair.

The project was Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, which was canceled after the pilot season. So it is lucky his agents talked him into going to the audition for The Big Bang Theory. The majority of fans think that Helberg was born for the role of Howard. And the same applies to his hair.

During a Twitter Q&A, the actor finally decided to get fans out of his hair and answer the burning question about a wig.

"I don't wear a wig. Not yet. My hair is flat-ironed, however," Helberg tweeted.

The actor shared a few other details about his experience working on the set of The Big Bang Theory. It turned out that the haircut was not the most uncomfortable part of Howard's image. His famous skinny jeans were so tight that Helberg needed help with getting in and out of them.

"I often need assistance getting in & out of those pants. Luckily there are well paid women to help. Lucky for them," the actor admitted with no false modesty.
