'Disclosure Day': Plot, Cast & Everything We Know About the Upcoming Spielberg Movie
This is the most mysterious project of the year, but we already know a few details.
This summer, Steven Spielberg returns to a topic he practically invented – half a century ago, Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind changed the landscape of summer blockbusters and the depiction of aliens on screen.
Now, the director is looking to the skies again with Disclosure Day, a film about humanity uncovering the truth about the existence of aliens – a truth that governments have hidden for decades.
Here's everything we know about this highly anticipated project.
When Will 'Disclosure Day' Be Released?
Disclosure Day is set to premiere on June 12, 2026. Originally scheduled for May 15, the movie's release date was pushed back a month.
There are currently no other films scheduled for release on that date – apparently, no one is willing to compete with Spielberg. Filming began in February 2025 and took place in New Jersey, Atlanta, New York, and Huntington.
What Will 'Disclosure Day' Be About?

The plot is a closely guarded secret, but it is known that the idea for the film originated from Spielberg's childhood memories. He loved looking at the stars and wondering if there was life in the universe. Now, he answers that question in the affirmative.
The plot starts with the question: what if someone on Earth already knows the truth? Disclosure Day is the moment when the secret becomes clear.
The trailer features two central characters: Josh O'Connor, who confesses to stealing classified information, and Emily Blunt, a weather presenter who starts speaking an incomprehensible language mid-sentence.
Fans have theorized that the movie could be connected to Close Encounters of the Third Kind, though there has been no official confirmation.
Who Is in the Cast of 'Disclosure Day'?
Emily Blunt was the first to be cast, and judging by the trailer, she plays a TV presenter. Josh O'Connor was offered the role without auditioning – apparently, he had been under consideration for a while.
Eve Hewson will play his close friend or girlfriend. Colin Firth is likely to play the main antagonist – he appears in a sinister setting in the trailer.
Disclosure Day also stars Wyatt Russell, Colman Domingo, Elizabeth Marvel, Michael Gaston, and Henry Lloyd-Hughes.
Why Is 'Disclosure Day' Worth Waiting For?

Spielberg's return to the topic of aliens is a landmark event. Half a century ago, he changed how the public viewed aliens, turning them from a threat into a test of humanity.
The project's team includes legendary cinematographer Janusz Kamiński, who has won two Oscars, and composer John Williams, who is collaborating with Spielberg for the 30th time.
The last time Spielberg made a movie about aliens was 20 years ago with War of the Worlds. If he's decided to return to the subject now, it means he has something interesting to say and that's perhaps the main reason not to miss Disclosure Day.
