Let's be honest – Disney+ is not known for serious content for adult audiences, preferring to stick to their animated films and Marvel & Star Wars universes. That could change in the foreseeable future, however, given that the streaming giant has just ordered a mini-series focusing on Anne Frank's story.

The story will follow a Dutch woman named Miep Gies, who was hiding Frank's family during the WWII. Relatable and powerful story would certainly attract new audiences, craving to know more about that remarkable, but slightly underappreciated woman.

The miniseries boasts an impressive cast too – 'The Morning Show' star Bel Powley will play Miep Gies, while Liev Schreiber and Joe Cole will take on the roles of Otto Frank and Miep's husband, respectively.

Let's hope that this announcement marks Disney+ 's decision to enhance their streaming library outside of their famous IPs. Their previous efforts, like 2020 remake 'The Right Stuff' proved to be underwhelming, yet the upcoming series is looking to be something more humane and compelling. Given the great cast involved, the show will certainly find a way to attract its future audience.

Fans are obviously surprised by Disney’s decision to touch on such a heavy subject, fearing that streaming giant might gloss over original story’s brutal moments.

The principal photography will begin in Prague and Amsterdam this summer.
