Disney+'s #3 Movie Is a Run-Of-The-Mill Action Comedy That Doesn't Deserve Your Time
It is a cocktail whose ingredients are mixed without regard for taste or measurement.
BenDavid Grabinski's crime comedy, Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, is now available on Disney+. It's the third most popular movie on the platform, which is surprising in itself because it desperately tries to be everything at once.
It's a gangster story, a time-travel sci-fi, a love triangle melodrama, and a flick about male friendship, all rolled into one.
What Is 'Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice' About?

The plot revolves around Mike, a hitman who dreams of quitting the crime life and running away with his girlfriend, Alice. The problem is that Alice is married to Nick, a grumpy and dangerous gangster.
Just as Mike hopes for a romantic rendezvous at a hotel, Nick himself knocks on the door, not Alice. It turns out that Nick has traveled from six months in the future.
He found a time machine in a debtor's basement and now wants to prevent Mike's death.
'Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice' Gets Stuck in Its Own Formulas
Structurally, Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice is built like a classic time-loop story, in which the main character gets a chance to right a wrong. However, director and screenwriter BenDavid Grabinski doesn't develop this concept, he merely uses it as a basis for gags.
The characters' endless conversations are stylized like Tarantino-esque chatter, but they don't come close to matching its precision or rhythm. While Tarantino uses dialogue as a dramatic tool, Grabinski uses it as white noise.
The movie's action is brisk but lacks a distinctly original feel – the shootouts, chases, and final warehouse massacre feel like obligatory elements included to satisfy genre demands.
Grabinski's work is a masterclass in imitation: it's so devoid of its own style that it copies its visual solutions from its peers.
'Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice' Has a Few Rare Flashes of Style and Zest, but That's Not Enough to Make It Worth Watching

It's important to note that Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice has a strange, almost infectious energy. Every 10-15 minutes, Grabinski delivers a decent joke or even an entire scene.
Also, the ensemble cast handles the primitive material well – Vince Vaughn juggles two roles successfully, and James Marsden is comfortable in a comedic role.
However, these merits aren't enough to recommend the movie. Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice is a product of the streaming era: an instant, algorithmic project.
