If you're craving a unique, intelligent supernatural crime show, look no further than Revival, and here's why.

In August, the first season of Revival, a Canadian TV series based on the comic book series of the same name by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, ended on Syfy.

Revival combines elements of mysticism, horror, and detective stories to tell the tale of a small town where people have returned from the dead. Here is why Revival is a must-see for all fans who missed good old supernatural detective stories.

What Is 'Revival' About?

In the small town of Wausau, Wisconsin, an inexplicable and frightening miracle occurred: recently deceased residents returned to life. They retain their memories and personalities but have acquired a supernatural ability: the power to quickly regenerate.

The town is soon placed under quarantine by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, who isolate the county and compile a registry of all citizens who have returned from the dead.

Deputy Sheriff Dana, a single mother, is assigned to investigate a mysterious murder. However, the case is complicated by the fact that her own family is involved.

'Revival' Is a One-Of-A-Kind Blend of Genres That Redefines Zombie Projects

The creators of Revival have managed to successfully combine several genres. The series skillfully blends elements of classic horror about the undead with a tense murder investigation, a noir atmosphere of provincial secrets, and a family drama.

Despite its central topic of the return of the dead, Revival is not a typical zombie series. It is closer to a thriller in the style of Fargo than to another project in the spirit of The Walking Dead.

'Revival' Is a Faithful Adaptation of the Original Comic

Fans of the original comic warmly welcomed the adaptation. Many noted that, while Revival remained faithful to the original source, it still managed to surprise even devoted fans of the comic.

The showrunners deliberately didn't drag out the intrigue – viewers will get answers to all their questions by the finale.

However, the ending leaves room for further development of the mythology. Although a second season has not yet been officially confirmed, Revival has all the potential to continue.

What Did Critics & Viewers Think of 'Revival'?

  • Revival has 89% from critics and 85% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

  • On IMDb, the series has a score of 6.9/10.

Where to Watch 'Revival'?

Revival is available to stream on Peacock and Fubo.
