The actors became an iconic boss duo on The Studio’s season 1, but they were on-screen best buddies long before Apple TV+’s hit satire show. Here’s what movie (and its sequel) both Seth Rogen and Ike Barinholtz starred in.

The whole mess before the CinemaCon presentation turned out pretty well for Matt Remick and Sal Saperstein in The Studios season 1 finale, though now it might take some time for the show to bring back Seth Rogen and Ike Barinholtz’s fan-favourite comic duo.

The show, however, wasn’t the first one to witness the actors sharing the screen, with both remaining good friends for decades by now.

In fact, the two could be previously seen in a 2014 hit comedy movie and later in its sequel, paving the way for Matt and Sal’s unmatched chemistry.

  • On Rotten Tomatoes, Neighbours keeps scores of 72% and 63% from critics and audiences
  • On IMDb, the movie is rated 6.3/10

Seth Rogen might be Continental’s desperate and pretty anxious boss right now, but back in the day he was a family man fighting for peaceful nights in a 2014 bromantic comedy Neighbours.

Also starring Rose Byrne and Zac Efron, the movie follows Rogen and Byrne’s Mac and Kelly Radner who, upon welcoming their first child, try to adjust to the restrictions of parenthood when a fraternity known for loud and pretty outrageous parties moves in next door.

Neighbours also stars Barinholtz as Jimmy Blevins, Mac’s close friend and co-worker who, despite distancing himself from the Radners at first, eventually shows up more frequently and gets involved in the escalating conflict between Mac and the rowdy fraternity next door led by Zac Efron’s Teddy Sanders.

Both Rogen and Barinholtz reprise their roles in Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising released in 2016.

What Critics and Viewers Said About ‘Neighbours’

Unlike with The Studio, both parties got pretty divided over the Rogen-led chaotic comedy, but still received some solid praise.

“Neighbors is a bit of a mess, neither outrageous nor thoughtful enough to compensate for its lack of narrative imagination. But the film is also not without its modest pleasures”, “AV Club”’s A.A. Dowd wrote.

“At a certain point, the movie starts to feel like an extended "Saturday Night Live" skit, with not much concern for narrative progression. But few people will complain”, “Associated Press”’ Jocelyn Noveck said.

“Love the movie, it's funny, different and it just hits the spot when you're looking for something good to watch. Lots of dick jokes though, they're funny but get overused at certain points overall, great movie!” user Kadin H commented on Rotten Tomatoes’ website.

“This is one of my favorite Seth Rogan movies ever. It's one of those that keeps you laughing the entire time. It's funny, witty, and has a great story. Unless you're an absolute prude, you will find this movie hilarious”, Alissa C added.
