A new Doctor is always a subject of hot debates among the fans. When Jodie Whittaker took reign as the Time Lord, becoming the first female Doctor in the series, all hell broke loose, but as she is set to bow out later in the year, a new discussion picks up steam: who will be the next one and how welcomed will they be?

It seems that ‘Doctor Who ’ is heading for a Marvel-style makeover, and Hugh Grant is in talks to become the next Time Lord, according to The Mirror.

Besides, showrunner Russell T Davies is getting back on track, taking control of the show just before its 60th anniversary in 2023.

Insiders say “conversations are in progress”, so it might be too early to place Grant in the position currently occupied by Jodie Whittaker, but fans have already shared their thoughts.

And while people are quite okay with Hugh Grant, it’s the influence of a certain entertainment giant on the classic sci-fi series they are not particularly happy about.

Others clearly want ‘Doctor Who’ to try and stick to diversity developments and not go into superhero mode.

One fan had their own idea of how regeneration of Jodie Whittaker into Hugh Grant could go.

Some people sided with the team “forget change, diversity and new faces, I just want to see David Tennant as Doctor again”. Can we blame them?

Perhaps one of the most iconic TV series in history, ‘Doctor Who’ has had a tumultuous fate on screens. Created in 1963, the series revolves around the immortal Time Lord named Doctor exploring the universe on his TARDIS spacecraft. In 2005, following a 16-year hiatus, Doctor returned to the screens - and it was Davies who brought it back. Then, the series found itself in the hands of Steven Moffat and most recently Chris Chibnall.

Davies managed to make ‘Doctor Who’ a global phenomenon, not just another British sci-fi show. Now that the series does not enjoy skyrocketing ratings, maybe he could do it again.
