Obsessed with thoughtful stories with a slice of social commentary? Well, you need to give this bad boy a watch because it checks out all of the boxes.

I've been sold on Anya Taylor-Joy as an actress way back in 2015 when she was the lead of The Witch. Since then, I've watched her transform into characters with increasing admiration. There was Split in 2016, EMMA. and The Queen's Gambit in 2020, Last Night in Soho in 2021, and one of my favorites, The Menu in 2022.

The Menu is different, dark and funny. It serves up exactly what modern cinema has been missing: originality with a side of social commentary. And while a lot of good movies leave Netflix this April, I'm devastated about the loss of this one.

A Taste of What's to Come: What Makes The Menu So Special

The Menu follows a couple, Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Tyler (Nicholas Hoult) who visit an exclusive restaurant on a remote island. The restaurant is run by the mysterious and intense Chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes) who has prepared a very special menu for his wealthy guests.

A luxurious dinner turns out to be something much darker and more twisted than you can imagine. Each course brings new revelations and increases tension as Chef Slowik's true intentions for the evening begin to unravel.

And if you're that kind of person who easily can predict an ending for a movie, you'll definitely struggle with this one. In an interview to TheGamer Taylor-Joy said:

“I'm insufferable to watch a movie with or a TV show with because I'm constantly guessing lines, guessing storylines. And when I was reading the script [for The Menu], I could not tell you what was going to happen next. And the ending I definitely did not get. And I wanted to be a part of it.”

When Will The Menu Leave Netflix?

I know there are a lot of good shows and movies on Netflix right now, and your watchlist is probably planned for months in advance already. But you seriously need to catch The Menu before it goes away. It's one of those rare films that's both entertaining and smart. And it will definitely make you think.

The movie hits different spots for different people. Some see it as a commentary on art and commerce, while others just enjoy it as a dark comedy thriller. Whatever your taste, you're in for a treat (promise, that's the last food reference). You've got just 4 days until it leaves Netflix this April 1st. Make the best out of them and give this one a chance.
