The second chapter takes the absurd plot to a new level with ADHD dynamics, toxic visuals, and ultra-psychedelic elements.

The second season of Dorohedoro, the psychedelic anime title about a lizard man and sorcerers, has already reached its halfway point. Fans waited six years for the new chapter, so its release has become one of the biggest premieres of the spring.

And it was worth the wait.

What Is 'Dorohedoro' Season 2 About?

The second season picks up right where the first one left off. Caiman and Nikaido continue searching for the sorcerer who transformed Caiman into a lizard. The main character has no memory of his past, so he's grasping at any clue he can find.

One of the witnesses is Risu, a member of the CrossEyes gang. Incidentally, he needs to find the culprit behind his problems as well – now, almost every character gets their own screen time.

En's gang is also searching for the leader of the CrossEyes, who deal in black powder. This banned substance enhances the abilities of weak sorcerers but is produced from the organs of the most powerful sorcerers.

Its Characters' Ambiguities Are a Key Part of 'Dorohedoro's Ongoing Appeal

Manga artist Q Hayashida and director Yuichiro Hayashi once again confront their characters with the consequences of dual morality. There are no positive characters in Dorohedoro – Caiman and Nikaido seem kind, yet they mercilessly destroy sorcerers for mundane reasons, such as avoiding taxi fares.

The villains, on the other hand, periodically switch roles. For example, the demon Asu helps Nikaido escape from En, risking his own life when he could have simply passed by.

The second season is further punctuated by flashbacks. We see the childhood of the blonde sorcerer and her connection with the demon wearing a pig-faced mask – we learn why she gave up her power and settled in the Hole.

'Dorohedoro' Season 2 Sees the World Expand and the Blood Flow Even More

Previously, viewers only saw two worlds: the magical world and the human world. Now, the city of Zagan appears on the map, revealing a shared past between Caiman and Risa.

The second season reveals that the world of sorcerers is much larger than we could have imagined. However, not everything is perfect – prosperity is only visible in En's home, the rest of the districts, especially the crime syndicate's operating areas, are just as much a dump.

The second season is just as spectacular as the first – the characters become even more merciless, and guts and severed heads are scattered across the screen. The opening theme sets the tone: the characters are cut to pieces as if by the sharpest fishing line.

Dorohedoro remains a brilliant deconstruction of seinen – Caiman still hasn't become the chosen hero, and Nikaido is driven by personal interests rather than a desire to restore justice.
