Emilia Clarke Explained Why She Resents Her Former Game of Thrones Co-Stars
There is one thing most of Emilia Clarke’s GoT co-stars did that she couldn’t make herself do — and for that, the actress is still pretty pissed at her former colleagues.
Despite having played in several other movies and TV shows, Emilia Clarke is mostly famous for portraying Daenerys Targaryen across all eight seasons of Game of Thrones. The show has been the actress’s life for many years, and she had quite good relationships with most of her colleagues (apart from maybe the showrunners).
While Game of Thrones was the biggest sensation on TV back in the day, its actors still went through all the same ups and downs as their peers on different projects. On the one hand, they were getting more popular and richer by the minute; on the other hand, they had to follow strict on-set rules every day for several years.
And just like everyone else, most actors don’t enjoy following all those rules.
Pretty much every movie or TV show set has a strict policy about taking “souvenirs”: actors are not supposed to carry anything from the set. While the temptation to take some memorable bits of their journey home is immense, actors are supposed to withstand it and be happy with just a few photos and happy memories.
Game of Thrones, too, strictly prohibited its cast from sneaking such “souvenirs” out of the set, but most actors really didn’t care about it — except for Emilia Clarke. The self-proclaimed Abider of Rules that she is, the Daenerys Targaryen actress was borderline the only cast member who didn’t bring home any artifacts from the set.
Despite having been vocal about wanting her dragon eggs, Emilia Clarke didn’t use the opportunity to yank those away while everyone else was taking their own artifacts on the last days of the show. Most other actors took things associated with their characters — or just kitchen utensils, as Clarke joked on Vogue’s Off the Cuff.
Because of being left the only core cast member with an artifact to remember her time on Game of Thrones, Emilia Clarke was pretty upset with her co-stars. She did a good thing and followed the rules, but ended up being disappointed in her colleagues…and, maybe, the rules themselves. Maybe. Just a little bit.
If there are any good people from HBO MAX here, we have a message for you: send Emilia her dragon eggs. She didn’t take them herself, and that means she deserves them! After all, it’s not like all the other actors were fined for yanking their artifacts, right?
