Emily Blunt’s 2022 Western Is Your Next Watch If You Liked American Primeval

Netflix has long remained a mouthpiece for the Western genre, introducing its viewers a handful of gripping stories about the tough rules of life they have out there in the Wild West.
Expanding its vast collection with massive hits like Taylor Sheridan ’s monumental series Yellowstone or more recent American Primeval coming from Sheridan’s collaborator Peter Berg, the streamer definitely has something Western-y to boast of, though for many who have already seen it all this might not be enough.
Luckily for those who hold a Prime Video subscription as an addition to the one from Netflix, there’s another hidden Western gem with a star-studded cast you might have been overlooking for 3 years now.
The English Is a Must for All American Primeval Fans
With all other hit Western series coming out every so often, we might have missed out on another highly acclaimed piece of the genre which is currently stored in Prime Video’s collection.
Starring Emily Blunt and Twilight ’s alumnus Chaske Spencer (he played the werewolf named Sam), The English has its events unfolding in the 1890s’ West where an Englishwoman Lady Cornelia Locke arrives, looking for a man she considers guilty of her son’s death.
She soon meets Eli Whipp, an ex-cavalry scout determined to get to Nebraska and claim the land he has the right for after serving in the US army, despite some saying that this is a doomed idea. Embarking on a journey with completely different missions, Cornelia and Eli soon find out they have much more in common than they thought they did.
The show is currently holding a score of 84% from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
American Primeval Might Still Return, But as a Prequel

Despite being introduced as a miniseries with only one season intended, American Primeval would definitely waste its potential if it didn’t expand its universe after all, even if it doesn't seem possible for the show to return with another instalment.
That said, the series’ first season saw many lead characters being killed off, leaving scarce chances for American Primeval to come back with a continuation of the story. However, it could be brought back with a prequel instead, which is also an idea the show’s director finds pretty feasible.
“You know, after we wrapped, and I looked at all the actors — the ones that were still alive — I felt such affection for them. And I do think there are many ways that we could go”, Peter Berg said in an interview with Decider back in January.
