They made the ultimate sacrifice, remained a beacon of light when the world was falling into chaos, and defended their beliefs – they're the reason Attack on Titan is such a great anime. If you haven't watched all Attack on Titan seasons yet, beware of spoilers ahead!

To be honest, I've never understood the obsession with Eren and Mikasa. Yes, they are the main characters, but is Attack on Titan limited to just them? For me, the series' real depth came from other characters – those who remained in the shadows but shone much brighter.

After all, what would Attack on Titan be without Hange and her insane thirst for knowledge or Reiner with his eternal burden of guilt?

1. Floch Forster

Floch's personal transformation was astounding, considering how quickly it took place. Unlike Eren, Floch remained consistent in his goal of putting the Eldians first.

He neither tried to justify his actions by playing the martyr nor pretended to care about higher moral goals. Although Floch still remains highly controversial among fans, his strong principles and commitment to his cause deserve nothing but respect.

2. Reiner Braun

Viewers looked at Reiner with respect, approval, bewilderment, contempt, and sometimes all at once – because he is one of the most well-written and deepest characters in the entire series.

Although he becomes an antagonist, he has many parallels with Eren: they are both powerful Titans, fanatically devoted to their homeland, and willing to commit cruel acts for their people.

Despite all the hatred, he teams up with his former enemies to stop the Rumbling. His choice to seek redemption rather than blind revenge is what makes him a true hero of Attack on Titan.

3. Hange Zoë

Although a bit eccentric, Hange remained a symbol of hope in the Survey Corps throughout her life. She was obsessed with researching Titans, sparing no effort.

Furthermore, despite everyone's mistrust, she believed in Eren and defended his right to remain in the Corps when others wanted to expel him.

Her death still brings tears to my eyes – by sacrificing herself, she stopped the Titans to give her allies a chance to escape.

4. Armin Arlert

Of the three main characters, Armin seems to be the weakest, both physically and mentally. However, this is not true. He tries to see beyond the horizon with the help of his imagination, books, and hope. His strengths are his flexible thinking, and sharp mind.

Even with newfound strength and greater responsibilities, he remains true to himself. Armin is overcome by doubts, fears, and uncertainty, yet he accepts the responsibilities placed on him and is prepared for the consequences of his decisions and actions.

5. Erwin Smith

From the very first episodes of Attack on Titan, viewers are immersed in the series' chaotic world, so we barely get to know the seasoned warriors of the Survey Corps, like Erwin.

Despite his limited screen time, Erwin leaves an indelible mark. A natural leader, he earned the unconditional loyalty of his subordinates through his actions rather than threats. He was the first to go into battle, even if it meant certain death.
