This cult show is almost forgotten now, but it definitely deserves the attention of any fan of projects about teenagers.

Television series with teenage protagonists have been dominating the ratings for the past few years. Comedy, horror, detective – there is a place for teenagers in every genre.

The third season of The Sex Lives of College Girls recently wrapped, a show that tells the story of four yesterday's teenagers – freshmen in college, where all the joys and sorrows of adult life await. From whirlwind romances to wild parties, the series has everything we love about teen stories.

However, not a single teen series, including The Sex Lives of College Girls, has managed to surpass the show that came out 26 years ago and has held a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes for two decades – Freaks and Geeks.

Over the Years, Freaks and Geeks Has Achieved Cult Status as a Teen Show

Judd Apatow and Paul Feig's teen drama is set in the mid-80s, but Freaks and Geeks aired between 1999 and the 2000s.

Although the show was canceled after only 18 episodes in its first season, Freaks and Geeks has gained cult status over the years, with Feig and Apatow's creation amassing millions of fans around the world.

What Is Freaks and Geeks About?

The main character, Lindsay, is tired of following the rules and being a perfect student, so she gets involved with a group of school bullies, while her younger brother, Sam, prefers to be friends with the nerds: they discuss popular movies and the unfair school hierarchy.

Despite their different views and social statuses, these groups will be able to find a common language, but first they have to get to know each other a little better.

More Than 20 Years Later, Freaks and Geeks Is Still Relevant

Now it is obvious that the project, which came out almost immediately after the end of Beverly Hills, 90210, was ahead of its time. Despite such a clear division of teenagers, the creators avoid a stereotypical view of everyday life – they are real people behind the archetypal characters.

There are no popular blondes or machos on the football team, and the handsome lead character, James Franco, can easily feel like a loser and find a common language with anyone.

The show, which even before Stranger Things was nostalgic for the '80s and showed the problems of growing up, ended after its first season, but forever remained one of the greatest teen shows of all time.
