The only promising plotline in And Just Like That’s season 3 was wasted in episode 10, and I don’t think they are bringing it back later. It’s a shame, though.

And Just Like That season 3 brought a lot of cringeworthy fun and unrealistic plots. Like Charlotte’s vertigo, Miranda’s love life (before Joy), and of course Carrie and Aidan’s family shenanigans. And when the series introduced us to Duncan, Carrie’s new grumpy neighbour, I thought that it’s going to be another poor story.

And frankly, for a long time it was just an annoying part of each episode, until the two of them finally made an effort to learn about each other and give each other a chance for friendship.

As we know, Jonathan Cake’s Duncan is a famous writer, working on his next bestseller, and when he finds out that Carrie is working on a new book, he shows interest in her work. The two of them start exchanging their writings and soon enough become buddies who talk about work on a daily basis, helping each other become better.

Of course, their sincere affection for each other started showing quite soon, and the chemistry was also there. Especially after the party Miranda hosted at Carrie’s. But then Aiadan came back to NY with all the jealousy, and the professional fling had to stop for a brief moment.

However, nobody was blind and they figured out quite soon that Duncan and Carrie are now more than just writing buddies. Episode 10 of Season 3 followed their relationship closely and even gave a decent reason why the relationship should stay platonic. Carrie mentioned to Seema that he sees her as a smart woman first, and not sex interest, and she appreciated that and didn't want to change.

Why ‘And Just Like That’ Betrayed Carrie and Duncan: My Take

But the writers failed to give us a great platonic relationship between male and female, because of course. Instead, they have turned the most interesting storyline of the season into a one night stand trope, promising Duncan would never come back to New York to kill all hope.

I mean, why make everything sex related? It was a fresh and modern take to show us an adult relationship based on respect. Instead, we got yet another “Carrie and the man who couldn't” story. Well, thanks for nothing, I say.
