Everything You Need to Know About Apple TV's 'Cape Fear': Release Date, Plot & More
One of the most anticipated projects of the year is almost here.
The miniseries Cape Fear, starring Javier Bardem and Amy Adams, will premiere in summer 2026. The thriller follows a man released after 17 years in prison who seeks revenge on the lawyers who concealed key evidence.
This Apple TV project is a reimagining of the 1962 and 1991 movies of the same name, which were both adaptations of John D. MacDonald's novel The Executioners. Showrunner Nick Antosca and his team have significantly reworked the plot and characters.
When Will 'Cape Fear' Be Released?
Apple TV revealed that Cape Fear will premiere on June 5, 2026. There will be ten 55-minute episodes, released weekly on Fridays.
The second episode will be released alongside the first.
What Will 'Cape Fear' Be About?

After serving a long prison sentence for a crime he didn't commit, Max Cady is released. He's now obsessed with getting revenge on his lawyers, the happily married couple Anna and Tom Bowden, who represented him in court and concealed key evidence.
He begins stalking their family and orchestrating accidents to make their lives a living hell.
The script won't be a verbatim copy of the book or previous movies. One of the main differences is that Cady, who in the original book and movies was imprisoned for a real crime, is now portrayed as the victim of legal speculation.
Furthermore, the plot centers on a female lawyer, whereas previously, Cady only faced a male lawyer. The names have also changed – in the new version, the couple is named Anna and Tom, not Sam and Peggy/Leigh.
The series is positioned as a tense psychological thriller in the spirit of Alfred Hitchcock, the master of suspense.
Who's Behind the Making of 'Cape Fear' & Who's Starring in It?

Nick Antosca, known for his work on Hannibal starring Mads Mikkelsen, has been a fan of both Cape Fear movies since childhood. In the early 2020s, he partnered with Universal Content Productions and Amblin Television to develop his own adaptation.
Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese, creators of the 1991 movie, are serving as executive producers.
The project stars three leads. Javier Bardem plays Max Cady, a former convict obsessed with revenge. Amy Adams portrays Anna Bowden, a successful lawyer pursued by Cady. Patrick Wilson plays Tom Bowden, lawyer and Anna's husband.
The cast also includes Anna Baryshnikova, Jamie Hector, Patrick Fischler, Jullian Dulce Vida and others.
Cape Fear is one of the most highly anticipated premieres of the year, and for good reason. Bardem's portrayal of the obsessed avenger is a landmark in itself, and the involvement of Spielberg and Scorsese as producers adds further weight to the project.
