In 2022, the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners became a sensation – it earned a 100% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and was recognized as one of the year's best anime titles.
Its success was so great that it won over viewers and breathed new life into the video game Cyberpunk 2077. In 2025, the creators announced a new chapter with new characters and an entirely original story.
When Will 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' Season 2 Be Released?
The second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is set to premiere in fall 2026, though the exact date has not yet been revealed.
However, in early July, Netflix's Korean YouTube account accidentally posted a comment stating that the upcoming chapter would premiere on October 20, 2026.
The post was quickly edited, and neither confirmed nor denied this information. As was the case with the first season, it's likely that all 10 episodes will be released on the same day.
What Will 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' Season 2 Be About?
As the first season came to a close, the creators promised a new story in the second. The action will take place in the dark, dystopian Night City. The story will center on Wick Kingsley, a legendary former mercenary who lost all his cyberware and must now survive in the brutal world of Cyberpunk without it.
He will be joined by three other characters: D, a netrunner from the nomadic Snake Nation clan who is searching for his family's killer, Roman Carax, a documentary filmmaker who films life in Night City, and Talia Yang, who grew up under the influence of the brutal Maelstrom gang.
The identity of another character remains a secret.
The ten episodes will tell a story about family, obsession, and legacy – how the actions of some are reflected in the eyes of others. According to the creators, while the first season can be compared to a Michael Bay movie, the second season is more down-to-earth and brutal.
Who Makes 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' Season 2?
The second season is also being developed jointly by CD Projekt Red and Trigger Studios. Kei Ikarashi, who worked on the first season's character design and animation, will direct the second season. Ichigo Kanno has been appointed lead character designer.
Trigger Studios initially wanted a happy ending for the first season, but CD Projekt Red reminded them that there's no way to win in the world of Cyberpunk – the game itself doesn't have a definitive happy ending.
