The End of Oak Street will premiere on August 14, 2026. Originally scheduled for May 16, 2025, the movie's release was postponed due to personnel changes at Bad Robot and Anne Hathaway's busy schedule.
First, the premiere was moved to spring 2026, and then to August to avoid clashing with the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2.
It will conclude the summer blockbuster season of 2026, avoiding competition with Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, Craig Gillespie's Supergirl, and the new Spider-Man.
What Will 'The End of Oak Street' Be About?
The story takes place in the 1980s. Denise and Greg Platt are a married couple with two children who live in a typical house on Oak Street.
One stormy night, an unknown force uproots their entire neighborhood and transports it to the Cretaceous period, the era of giant dinosaurs that lasted from approximately 145 to 66 million years ago.
Terrified, the characters search for a way back to the future. They quickly realize that survival at the bottom of the food chain depends on their ability to evade predators and on the strength of their bonds with one another.
While the trailer and synopsis don't explicitly state it, it's implied that the couple is experiencing difficulties in their relationship, affecting the emotional state of their teenage children.
The dinosaurs play a metaphorical role, becoming an external embodiment of the characters' fears and experiences. Returning to prehistoric times is a necessary circumstance for the characters to reconnect.

Director David Robert Mitchell had the idea for this sci-fi script while walking through a small town in Michigan. He glanced at a typical fence and trash can and wondered what it would be like if dinosaurs were there.
Inspired by early Steven Spielberg works and The Twilight Zone, the movie is closer in spirit to the tense thrillers of M. Night Shyamalan from the 90s and 00s.
2026 could be called the year of Anne Hathaway. She has already starred in Mother Mary and The Devil Wears Prada 2, next up are Nolan's The Odyssey and Verity. Hathaway will play Denise Platt, a woman suffering from personal unfulfillment.
Ewan McGregor landed the role of Greg almost by accident – Oscar Isaac was originally cast as the family's father, but dropped out shortly before filming began.
