The movie expands the Evil Dead universe and raises questions that may be answered in future installments of the franchise.

Evil Dead Burn turned out to be much more connected to the franchise's mythology than anticipated. The movie features familiar Deadites from previous installments, a Kandarian dagger, and numerous references to Sam Raimi's classic trilogy.

The ending of the movie and its two post-credits scenes leave us with new questions and hint at a sequel. Here's our explanation of what happened in the finale and the meaning of the post-credits scenes.

Who Are the Deadites?

Deadites are demonic, parasitic spirits that feed on the souls of the living and take over their bodies. While there is no precise backstory for these demons, they are presumed to be human souls corrupted in the darkest depths of Hell.

Over the centuries, Deadites have returned to the mortal world, freed by various methods, such as spells and artifacts, to continue their endless mission of spreading chaos and suffering.

In Evil Dead Rise, a Kandarian demon learns to control these spirits and the Deadites themselves. The Deadites torture their victims rather than simply killing them, thriving on chaos and disorder.

In Evil Dead Burn, aspiring writer Joseph Price discovered his grandfather Benjamin's notes about Deadites, the Necronomicon, and the Kandarian dagger. His excavations attracted the demon lurking in the lake and possessing Jessica in Evil Dead Rise.

The demon threw itself under Joseph's older brother Will's car, possessed his body, and began infecting the entire family in order to get to the dagger. After the battle, most of the family members died, and the Deadite in Polly's body crawled away in an unknown direction.

What Did Benjamin's Secret Society Do?

The Prices found themselves at the epicenter of events for a reason – the family's missing grandfather, Benjamin, belonged to a secret society of sages who fought demonic evil. The sages studied the Necronomicon and developed methods to combat Deadites.

This included creating special Kandarian daggers, which were capable of killing or banishing the undead. However, while studying his grandfather's works, Joseph accidentally lifted the protective spells, attracting demons to the family.

There may be other sages left in the world who could reveal new information about Deadites and how to fight them in future installments of the franchise.

What Was Shown in the First Post-Credits Scene?

The first post-credits scene revealed Polly's fate. Still possessed by a Deadite, she crawled onto the road, where she was seen by an unknown girl.

The Deadite scratched the traveler, transmitting the demonic infection to her. This is a nod to the franchise's premise that infection can be acquired through blood, saliva, or murder.

What Was Shown in the Second Post-Credits Scene?

The second post-credits scene brings viewers to a crematorium where the manager's daughter discovers an urn holding the ashes of Ellie Bixler from Evil Dead Rise. Suddenly, Ellie appears and kills the girl, preparing for another massacre.

In Evil Dead Rise, her sister, Beth, seemingly destroyed the Deadite Ellie, but did so without the ritual dagger – this explains Ellie's rebirth.
