'Eyes of Wakanda' Promises Deep Dive Into Wakandan History and MCU Universe Like Never Before

Sneak peek for animation spin-off.
Marvel Studios has often faced criticism for what many perceive as a lackadaisical approach to marketing its streaming projects. For instance, the first trailer for Ironheart was only released on 14 May, just over a month before the show’s debut on Disney+. However, it seems this may be changing. A 30-second official sneak peek for Eyes of Wakanda has just been unveiled, finally showcasing footage from the Marvel Animation Black Panther spin-off. The visuals look nothing short of spectacular.
While the teaser reveals little about the plot or main characters, it hints at a rich exploration of Wakanda’s role within the broader history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Earlier this year, Todd Harris, a storyboard artist for Black Panther and the showrunner and director of Eyes of Wakanda, described the series as a history-spanning adventure. It centres on the Hatut Zaraze, Wakanda’s “Dogs of War” — a covert group akin to the CIA, tasked with recovering Vibranium artefacts from Wakanda’s adversaries.
“I really liked the idea of everyone’s view of history,” Harris explained. “The story begins at the end of the Western Bronze Age, and that spark ignites a sprawling spy-espionage tale that echoes through time. You get a Wakanda-grade James Bond, and sometimes a Jane Bond, set against the incredible backdrop of Wakanda.”
He added:
“When an inciting incident releases some of these artefacts into the wild, the Hatut Zaraze must, in a very hush-hush manner, ensure these items don’t escalate into a larger threat. We’ve already seen what happened when one disc fell into the hands of a Super Soldier — it altered the course of history.”
Harris described Eyes of Wakanda as “anthology adjacent,” with a continuous storyline that will influence the wider MCU. It has been confirmed that an Iron Fist character will appear, though not Danny Rand himself. Throughout Wakandan history, courageous warriors have journeyed across the globe to retrieve dangerous Vibranium artefacts. Eyes of Wakanda tells their story and will premiere on Disney+ on 6 August.
