Fact: I Had No Idea This 'Rocky IV' Punch Nearly Killed Stallone

A fight scene that turned dangerously real, fast.
When I first watched Rocky IV, I was completely caught up in the brutal, over-the-top boxing between Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago. Like most people, I assumed the punches were carefully choreographed and controlled — intense, but fake.
Turns out, I was very wrong.
During filming, Sylvester Stallone — who not only starred in but also directed the movie — told Dolph Lundgren (who played the towering Soviet boxer Ivan Drago) to really go for it during one of the scenes.
Lundgren landed a massive punch to Stallone’s chest — so hard, it caused his heart to swell, similar to injuries seen in car crash victims. Hours later, he was rushed to the hospital and spent eight days in intensive care.
Stallone later said: "Suddenly, my heart started to swell. My blood pressure went up to 260. I was going to be talking to angels…"
So yeah — one punch, and Rocky was nearly out for good. I mean, Dolph is an absolute machine. Knowing this adds a whole new layer to that iconic fight scene. It wasn’t just good acting — it was dangerously close to real.
