Todd Howard commended Prime Video’s TV show for their special addition he couldn’t get right in the original video game series.

Summary:

  • Prime Video ’s new Fallout TV show recently premiered and immediately raked up a 93% Critic Score on Rotten Tomatoes alone.
  • Todd Howard, the boss of the studio developing the Fallout video games, said that to him and his team, the series was “a treat.”
  • Howard specifically praised the TV show’s creators for including glimpses of pre-war America, something he could do in the games.

Prime Video recently released its brand new post-apocalyptic TV show Fallout, and it’s doing great: so far, everyone seems to love the live-action adaptation. Even the creator of the video games on which the Fallout TV show is based, Bethesda’s Todd Howard, couldn’t help but praise the series’ creators for the work they did.

Howard particularly commended one part of the TV show which, though small and only takes up seven minutes of screen time, couldn’t be achieved in his games.

What Did Fallout the TV Show Add?

Video games allow for unmatched interactivity, effectively enabling the player to do whatever; that’s something movies and TV shows can never achieve. However, there are things that work in reverse and, according to Todd Howard, Prime Video’s Fallout nailed the one thing his team could never have added into the games.

“The one thing we could never do in the games was [explore] the past. The way Jonah and everyone else has explored what the US was like, what's the threat of the atomic bomb and what will people do if a nuclear war happens, what’s the Red Scare, who’s Vault-Tec… They brought all this fabulous history and lore to Fallout. All these things then affect the present day characters in the show,” Howard shared with TechRadar.

Bethesda Team Love Fallout the TV Show

Prime Video’s Fallout conquered the hearts of critics and viewers in no time: currently, the new TV show boasts stellar 93 and 85% Critic and Audience Scores on Rotten Tomatoes. But apart from that, it left the people who worked on the games satisfied — at least, the folks from Bethesda, since it wasn’t the only studio developing the Fallout games.

Todd Howard said that with all the additional touches and the unique approach Prime Video’s TV show took, the end result “was a treat for him and everyone at Bethesda who has worked on Fallout.” The best part about the series, according to the Bethesda boss, is that it’s “really fresh, but it’s also quintessential Fallout.”
