What Happened to Mutt in ‘Schitt’s Creek’?

Schitt's Creek is definitely one of my favorite shows and I can’t thank my best friend enough for introducing it to me.

One of the reasons I love the show is how carefully yet profoundly the creators handled character development. Every new emotion and every new thought was coming from somewhere, it was never unexpected, you always knew who helped your favorite characters become better versions of themselves.

I guess, in a way, one of the tools for Alexis’s redemption arc was Mutt, Roland Schitt's son. In the beginning of the show he was an integral part of it, becoming friendly and flirty with Alexis. She flirted back until she found out that he was actually dating Twyla, so that never worked out, and then Alexis went on and started dating Ted.

However, some time after, she still got together with Mutt and they actually were a fun couple to follow.

“I really enjoyed the way he and Alexis flirted, it was very cute. I don’t think they should have stayed together, I think that was a smart writing choice for them to break up. But I found it strange that people disliked him as a character because he served his function to the plot well,” Redditor catelemnis said.

Why Did Mutt Disappear From ‘Schitt’s Creek’?

However, after season 2 ended, Mutt suddenly disappeared. In season 3 he has a brief storyline about having a new girlfriend, Tennessee, and them going together on a road trip.

And frankly, that was almost the last time we will hear from him. Well, except for that last scene in season 4 when he lets Alexis use his barn for the singles event.

Well, the in-universe reason to comment on his absence was that he decided not to stay in Schitt's Creek and wanted to wander the world. But the real reason he left the show was that the actor, Tim Rozon, took on a leading role in the show Wynonna Earp.
