But the community at large is still undecided between “We’re so back” and “Don’t give us hope…” We hope it’s the former.

Fallout Season 1 was nothing short of a revelation for everyone involved. Some learned that videogames are, indeed, worthy of adaptations; others, that videogame adaptation can, indeed, not be torturously horrific. And most people were just happy to have found a brand new universe to get lost in. Either way, it was a win-win-win situation for everyone involved.

With a bizarre count of over 100M active viewers, it came as no surprise that the Fallout series was immediately renewed for Season 2, which is expected to premiere in December 2025. And this May’s news of Season 3 being greenlit, as well, wasn’t too much of a stretch. But as a wise man once—or, allegedly, one too many times—said, here’s the deal, folks.

The game fans might be in for an ever bigger and juicier treat. You want proof? Fair enough. We got that proof…kind of.

Bethesda to Release New Fallout Games

Right, this does sound like a bold statement. Let’s count all the hoops and loops of our—and many other fans’—mental gymnastics here together.

One. Back when Season 1 came out, Bethesda—the game studio that develops the Fallout games—released its first Fallout 4 update in almost seven years. Sure, it wasn’t in any way dramatic; just a few additions here and there. But it revealed that Bethesda was interested in monetizing the TV show’s popularity. We don’t suppose that fact has changed at all.

Two. Earlier this year, Bethesda shadow-dropped Oblivion Remastered, the new and improved version of the studio’s iconic 2006 game. There were no official announcements, no marketing campaigns, nada. The studio only launched a surprise stream addressing it that ended with the words, “The game is available…NOW.” But there were rumors well in advance.

Three. There are rumors about Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters, too. They’ve been floating around for a while now, and, just like it happened with the Oblivion remaster, the studio itself has been keeping quiet. Fans assume Bethesda might have outsourced the games’ development to Virtuos, the same studio that worked on the new Oblivion.

Now, to the best—and, arguably, the most questionable—part.

When Will New Fallout Games Be Released?

First of all, a friendly reminder: this is all a fan theory bordering on a conspiracy theory. It’s based almost entirely on the three facts we highlighted above, so please take further speculations with a grain of salt.

Many fans believe that the Fallout TV show was a bold bet, and was taken as such by Bethesda. They did prepare a Next Gen Update for Fallout 4 to accompany Season 1’s premiere, of course, but on their part, that was it. But then the bet paid off handsomely—both for the series’ creators and for Bethesda Softworks, whose Fallout game sales skyrocketed.

Now, because of the implication, the speculation is as follows: the studio will release its much-anticipated remasters at the same time as (or promptly following) the next TV show seasons. Which, in turn, suggests that in December 2025, Fallout fans won’t only get to watch brand new adventures of Goosey the Vaultie, but a brand new remaster, too!

The last stretch of this conspiracy is determining which of the two remasters is to accompany Fallout Season 2. Thankfully, this is an easy one: if Bethesda truly intends to release its new game this December, only one of the two titles makes sense. Everyone and their family dog knows that Season 2 takes us to the iconic streets of New Vegas, so…yeah.

It would’ve been an insane fumble on Bethesda’s part to release Fallout 3 Remastered instead of the Mojave chapter of the series alongside that.

Unless, of course, it’s this theory, and the fans, and us, and you, dear reader, for having read all of this, that is insane. Then, Bethesda’s off the hook.
