Rumors got fans talking

We've seen a lot of biopics hitting the big screen and online theaters in the last few years. Now it's The Beatles ' turn to be in the spotlight.

This project immediately received a lot of attention from press and fans alike. Director Sam Mendes (1917, American Beauty, Skyfall) is set to do four films about the legendary Beatles, each telling the story of a different member of the group.

The ambitious project should be fully finished in 2027. Mendes aims to bring a fresh perspective to The Beatles' story, and we couldn't be more excited about the upcoming movies.

Unfortunately, this casting news sparked a wave of insensitive comments focusing on Ono's appearance. Some commenters went as far as to suggest that Sawai is "too beautiful" for the role.

However, amid the controversy, there were some voices of reason. On Reddit, user jockofocker wrote:

"They can make it work. Look at Charlize Theron in Monster."

Redditor PeteHealy replied, with an even more insightful thought:

"Yes. Out of the scores of comments so far - including the ones that are actually thoughtful and not just knee-jerk hateful tripe toward Yoko Ono - your comment goes to the truth of how directors work with exceptional actors. Theron was awesome in "Monster" bc the story, the character, and the role inspired a masterful performance with the guidance of an excellent director. The same could conceivably happen here.”

Anna Sawai Is A Rising Star Who Totally Deserves the Spotlight

And we wholeheartedly agree. The focus should 100% be on the actor's ability to embody the character rather than superficial physical comparisons. With skilled direction and committed performance, Sawai, given her previous brilliant gigs, could deliver a compelling portrayal that goes far beyond just appearances.

Sawai has demonstrated her versatility as an actress through her recent roles in projects like Shogun and previous appearances in Fast X and Pachinko.

And fans are not the only one who are nervous moving forward. It has been rumored that Mendes himself is afraid of McCartney's & Ono's judgment. But we're sure that he has nothing to worry about. His innovative approach is going to give fans a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes lives of the Fab Four.

The filming is expected to begin in July 2025.
