Fans Aren't Okay With 'The Sandman' Season 2 Makeup: "Desire Is NOT Lady Gaga!"

Mason Alexander Park’s character has always been about style, but The Sandman fans think Season 2 has gone way too far with experiments — here’s what everyone’s complaining about right now.
Based on Neil Gaiman’s comics of the same name, Netflix’s The Sandman can boast of a pretty big number of truly remarkable characters that won’t be forgotten when long gone from the scene, but sometimes the flamboyancy is just too much.
The series, also boasting of all kinds of costumes and makeup variations due to the narrative’s reliance on myths and legends, primarily follows the Endless family and its members’ routine as they take control of humanity’s life.
However, it might be Mason Alexander Park’s Desire that, despite their villainous nature, still got all of the fans’ attention — first for getting the best makeup out there and then for totally failing this mission.
‘The Sandman’ Fans Think Desire’s Makeup in Season 2 Is “Less Ethereal”
It could have been a weird comment when referred to a different show, but in The Sandman’s case the ethereality might be the whole essence of the story.
In a Reddit thread, MizWhatsit lamented the series’ decision to go on with different makeup artists in the second season, saying that they rewatched the first instalment’s scene where Desire had “utterly perfect hair and makeup”.
“But in the new season, the gaudy jet-propelled eyeshadow, garish lipstick, and bleached-blonde mullet are not working for me, it's just too much. Plus in the family meeting scene, the costumers didn't take the time to properly fit the black bustier s/he was wearing, which took me out of the scene”, they concluded.
Other fans appear to agree.
“Yep, no shade to Mason - but I noticed that the styling (hair/makeup) & lighting wasn't doing them the same justice as season 1... Just less ethereal and beyond human levels compared to s1”, pingu-lane shared the same opinion on the matter.
“Should've stuck with the makeup artists from Season 1. Desire is NOT Lady Gaga”, MizWhatsit continued, replying to another fan who suggested that The Sandman had a new team of makeup artists for the second instalment.

Mason Alexander Park Doesn’t Mind “’Ultimate Form of Dress-Up” in The Sandman’
Even though Desire’s makeup and hair decisions might be questionable for some fans, there’s nothing but enjoyment in all the process for Park who has portrayed Desire since season 1.
The actor, who got their breakthrough TV role in The Sandman, previously revealed that the show has everything that they have ever loved in the industry and acting itself.
“It really just feels like the ultimate form of dress-up. It feels like I'm putting on catsuits and messing with my older brother. That is everything I could've ever wanted when I was younger”, Park said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly upon the release of The Sandman’s season 1 back in 2022.
