Fans Hope The X-Files Reboot From Sinners Director Will Do This Character Justice

Seasons 10 and 11 of The X-Files reboot made a lot of mistakes, but one of the main ones was the character of Scully. Ryan Coogler is now the main hope for fans, and here's what Gillian Anderson herself has to say about the show's comeback.
The new movie from Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, Sinners, has become another worldwide hit. As the film continues to break box office records, Coogler joined the Last Podcast On The Left to discuss not only his work on the sensational horror film, but also his upcoming creative plans.
Ryan Coogler's Next Project is The X-Files Reboot
According to the director, his next project will be a reboot of the cult series The X-Files. The project was announced several years ago, but now Coogler is warming up for its implementation. Coogler said:
“So, I've been excited about that for a long time, and I'm fired up to get back to it, and that, you know, some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really f*cking scary.”
Although reboots are rarely met with positive reactions from viewers who miss the original stories, The X-Files remake has every chance of gaining support from fans, and the reason is Dana Scully.
Seasons 10 & 11 Ruined the Character of Dana Scully, According to Fans
In the two-season return of the series, which started in 2016, Chris Carter made many questionable decisions, for example, he destroyed the main commandment of the universe mythology – Mulder is not William's father, the child is the result of an experiment, and the Smoking Man is his biological parent.
But the decision that outraged fans the most was the sudden and inexplicable change in Scully's behavior and, more fundamentally, in the dynamics of her relationship with Mulder. Reddit user No_Engineering3493 wrote:
“Some people think that season 8 and 9 shouldn't have been a thing, this is not even the worst part of what Carter does to Scully. In the remake 10&11 they reduce her to an INCUBATOR. I prefer to remember her as season 1-7 Scully.”
Viewers Hope Ryan Coogler's Reboot Will Bring Back the Scully They Love
While Gillian Anderson's involvement in Ryan Coogler's reboot has yet to be confirmed, fans are hoping that the director's team will be able to present the actress with a strong script and bring Scully back from the ashes. Redditor a-hthy commented:
“The way they completely ruined Scully's character in s11 was a total insult to the character and Gillian Anderson. Hopefully this will be better.”
When news broke that Coogler was working on a reboot of The X-Files, Anderson said, “I can't think of a better way to do a reboot.” And it sounds like a pretty inspiring comment.
With Sinners, Coogler has already proven that he can handle female characters without subjecting them to the male gaze or reducing them to plot devices, so perhaps the director's new hit will influence Gillian Anderson's decision.
