Both shows gave viewers a number of memorable characters. But out of all the storylines, fans picked the protagonist with the toughest fate.

In Breaking Bad, viewers were introduced to the enterprising Jesse, who, despite his situation, was not without ambition, empathy and compassion. The prequel brought the audience to Kim Wexler, Jimmy McGill's guardian angel and wife, and Nacho Varga, a cartel member with a moral compass.

Each of these characters has experienced many hardships along the way, but fans believe that Nacho, who originally worked for the Salamanca family, had the most heartbreaking story of them all.

Varga is not a typical criminal. He has a code of ethics that sets him apart from other cartel members. Despite his involvement in illegal activities, Nacho shows a sincere desire to protect his father and keep him safe.

Throughout the series, the protagonist is caught in a web of danger and deceit. He finds himself connected to both the Salamanca family and the infamous Gus Fring. As the story progresses, Nacho's character evolves and his vulnerability becomes more apparent.

The character is drawn into a showdown between Lalo and the owners of Los Pollos Hermanos as he tries to protect his only and closest relative from harm. They use Nacho at will and threaten to kill his dad.

Gus is not afraid to send Varga on the toughest cases, putting his life on the line, and then forcing him to gain Lalo's trust and get rid of him. While Salamanca survives, Nacho is forced to hide from an angry cartel that wants revenge on the traitor.

However, many fans point out that Jesse didn't have it any easier. Pinkman spent months as a slave in the pit, and everyone he loved ended up dead. Other Redditors say Nacho was hunted down by an entire cartel, shot twice, and nearly doused in gasoline.

But if Jesse had a choice when he could leave a life of crime and do what he loved, Varga had no such options. And while Pinkman was able to escape and start over, Nacho was shot several times and left to die in the desert without a grave.
