Fantastic Four Update Suggests Internet's Favorite 'Daddy' Is About to Join the Cast
Pedro Pascal is reportedly in talks to portray Reed Richards and the deal is close to being finalized.
- After several failed attempts to bring the Fantastic Four to the big screen, the superhero team is about to join the MCU
- New update reveals that Pedro Pascal is in negotiations for the role of Reed Richards
- The news has caused concern among fans who believe the actor was miscast, but a very similar situation happened not too long ago
Marvel Comics' most famous superhero family has had a very complicated relationship with Hollywood, as there have been several failed attempts to bring the Fantastic Four to the big screen.
The first came in 1994, but that movie never saw the light of day, then there were two Fantastic Four movies directed by Tim Story, released in 2005 and 2007, which weren't particularly good by any means.
The franchise was then rebooted in 2015 with another movie, this time directed by Josh Trank, but this one somehow ended up being even worse than its already flawed predecessors and was incredibly boring, instantly burying the supposed series of movies.
Fans have been waiting for the superhero team to be introduced to the MCU for a long time, but even though it was confirmed way back in 2019, there have been very few updates on the upcoming project since then.
One Fantastic Four Member Has Already Appeared in the MCU
But that doesn't mean that there hasn't been preparation for the superhero team's upcoming full introduction to the MCU, as 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness briefly featured a multiversal variant of Reed Richards, portrayed by John Krasinski.
Unfortunately, this version of Reed was killed off almost immediately, leaving fans to wonder if another actor would portray the character in the Fantastic Four movie, or if Krasinski would reprise the role.
Now a new update seems to put an end to the rumors, as according to Deadline's sources, none other than Pedro Pascal is currently in negotiations to play Richards.
While the deal is still in the works, the sources say that it has a pretty good chance of coming to fruition as everything is "headed in the right direction."
As for the other members of the superhero team, no official information has been announced yet.
Is Pedro Pascal Really a Good Choice For Reed Richards?
Fans seem to be split on the casting choice, as some simply can't see Pascal as Mister Fantastic and doubt the actor's suitability for the role.
Others lament that the MCU already had a perfect casting for the character and shamelessly blew it, as John Krasinski has long been one of the fans' most popular choices to play Reed Richards.
When he appeared in the Doctor Strange sequel, it was a dream come true for many viewers, who were absolutely baffled when he was killed off after only a few minutes of screen time, which only added to the backlash surrounding the film.
However, it is too early to call Pedro Pascal a miscast, as a very similar situation occurred when it was announced that the actor would be playing Joel Miller in the TV adaptation of The Last of Us.
Many fans of the original game were outraged by this decision, claiming that Pascal bore no resemblance to the original character and that the show would be a complete disappointment.
But against all odds, the series ended up being one of the most faithful video game adaptations to date, and most of the initial skeptics completely changed their minds about the actor, who gave a fantastic performance and absolutely nailed the character.
With all that in mind, fans may want to wait until they see Pascal's performance in the movie, if the deal goes through at all.
Fantastic Four is scheduled for release on May 2, 2025.
