Halfway through the season, fans have noticed surprising connections to the iconic franchise that seem too obvious to be coincidental.

Summary:

  • Fargo season 5 seems to feature more familiar elements from the original 1996 movie than any of the previous seasons
  • However, fans have noticed surprising connections to an entirely different franchise, Star Wars, which are only becoming more apparent
  • Though the season is only halfway through, the similarities are undeniable, which may hint at more connections to come

The fifth season of the TV series Fargo has already reached its halfway point, proving that although it borrows many elements from the original 1996 movie of the same name, unlike the previous seasons of the show, it ultimately blends them into a completely different story that surprises even fans of the original.

In addition to the many references to the Coen Brothers' film, however, eagle-eyed fans also noticed several references to a completely different franchise that, at first glance, has nothing to do with Fargo.

The Star Wars Parallels Become Clearer With Each New Episode

Though the season's plot revolves around Dorothy Lyon, played by Juno Temple, desperately trying to defend herself and her loved ones from her powerful ex-husband Roy Tillman, played by Jon Hamm, some fans believe it may have some subtle connections to Star Wars of all things.

It all started when Dorothy's mother-in-law's bodyguard referred to her daughter Scotty as "young Skywalker," which in itself seems like nothing more than a random reference.

But throughout the story, Dorothy leaves Scotty in the care of Deputy Indira Olmstead and her husband, Lars, to keep her safe while Dorothy prepares to deal with her ex-husband's more intense attempts to ruin her newfound happy life.

Anyone who has seen the original Star Wars trilogy will recall that Luke Skywalker was left in the care of his aunt and uncle at the Lars homestead on Tatooine to protect him from his father, Darth Vader.

The "Lars Olmstead - Lars Homestead" pun, along with the fact that they are giving shelter to "young Skywalker" seems too obvious to be a coincidence, leading some fans to believe that Scotty will play a major role in the future events of the season.

Future Episodes May Reveal More Pieces Of The Puzzle

Still, with five episodes to go, it's clear that some pieces of the puzzle have yet to be revealed, as it remains unclear who will represent other Star Wars characters in this story.

For now, it seems certain that Dorothy could be Obi-Wan Kenobi, as much like the iconic Jedi, she hides her past from everyone, pretending to be a harmless housewife, while in reality she is perfectly capable of fighting and even killing those who threaten her.

This makes Jon Hamm's Roy Tillman Darth Vader, as he has finally found Dorothy after many years and will stop at nothing to hunt her down.

Of course, this sounds pretty far-fetched right now, but as mentioned above, there is still a whole half of the story to unravel and maybe it will make more sense as more episodes are released.

Who knows, maybe Scotty is actually Roy's daughter, since she was born about a year after Dorothy escaped from her ex-husband, so anything is possible.

Fargo season 5 episode 6 will be released on December 19, 2023.
