Not too shabby for a few-hours-old video game adaptation everyone dubbed an instant failure, ey?

Summary:

  • Prime Video just released its new Fallout TV show, a live-action adaptation of the iconic video game series.
  • A few hours after its premiere, Fallout the TV show is doing great, raking up solid scores on Rotten Tomatoes and Metascore.
  • Both video game fans and newcomers are praising the series for hitting the sweet spot between unhinged brutality and whimsy fun.

It's only been a few hours since Prime Video's brand new post-apocalyptic TV show premiered, but it's already earned the audience’s sympathies. Those who feared it would butcher the Fallout lore are seemingly content with the end result, and the newcomers are just enjoying a world unknown to them. As unexpected as it is in a harsh and brutal place like the Wasteland, it seems like Fallout is smooth-sailing.

Fallout Instantly Won Fan Sympathies

It looks like Jonathan Nolan and his team did their homework. Video game adaptations are incredibly hard to nail, but Prime Video’s Fallout isn’t suffering from the notorious BloodRayne syndrome. After several hours on streaming, the brand new post-apocalyptic series is doing splendidly, appreciated by fans and critics alike.

At the time of writing, Fallout the TV show has a brilliant 93% Critic Score on Rotten Tomatoes, and viewers aren’t lagging too far behind with a solid 89% Audience Score. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, Prime Video’s latest series has received a Critic Score of 72 and a matching User Score of 7.1 to compliment its eyes.

Things are looking good in the Wasteland, especially for those watching the protagonists’ adventures from the comfort of their Vaults.

Fans Are Loving the New Fallout Adaptation

Over on Reddit, folks are excited. Both fans of the original video games and complete (mysterious) strangers to the Fallout universe, they largely praise the new series: the former, for being faithful and yet doing its own thing, and the latter, for being brutal, whimsy, and genuinely engaging even for the most clueless viewers.

“Just finished the first episode and so far I really like it — it’s set up some interesting characters, the acting is all good, and the production value is top notch. You can tell some love and money was put into this! Waiting until I get home from vacation to watch the rest,” Reddit user BriGuy550 wrote.

Most people agree with them. Do you?
