Forget French-Style Meat: Try This Hearty Scottish Beef Stew for a Richer Flavor
Serve it as a common family dinner or rather a party dish your guests will be talking about for long after.
Some dishes like the French-style meat have become the world classic, so many people tend to opt for them when there’s time to host a party at home, without actually realizing that other delicious options are waiting to be tried too.
If you’re tired of preparing the same type of meat again and again, you better try this recipe for Scottish beef stew — soaked in beef, it goes perfectly well with fried bacon and onions, thus offering the unforgettable taste that you’ll want to repeat.
Ingredients: 1.5 kg of beef, 800 ml of dark beer, 100 g of smoked bacon, 3 onions, 2 cloves of garlic, 80 g of butter, 3 tbsp of vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons of flour, 1 bay leaf, 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard, 2 tablespoons of cherry jam, 1 bunch of parsley, salt to taste, 400 g of puff pastry, 1 egg.
Cut the beef into large pieces, mix with garlic and bay leaves, pour in the beer, and refrigerate overnight. The next day, remove the meat, pat it dry, and quickly fry it in portions until it is browned.
In the same pan, fry the chopped onion and bacon, add the flour, stir, and pour in the strained marinade. Add the meat back in, stir in Dijon mustard and cherry jam, bring to a boil, and bake in the oven at 150°C for about 2 hours — during this time, the meat becomes tender, and the sauce thickens and develops a rich flavor.
Separately, roll out the puff pastry, cut out circles, brush with egg, and quickly bake until golden brown. Before serving with "pastries", arrange the meat in deep plates and sprinkle with parsley.
