If you've been a longtime fan of Andrzej Sapkowski's novels or CD Projekt Red's game series, you've likely felt disappointed watching Netflix's version of The Witcher. It was supposed to be an adaptation of the books, but it quite quickly spiraled out of control.

‘Alzur's Legacy’ (2019): The Fan Film With Strong ‘Witcher’ Core
Released the same year as the Netflix series, Alzur's Legacy proves to be the more authentic version of The Witcher. It's not an adaptation but a completely new story in the Witcher universe.
Context: the story begins with an attack on Kaer Morhen. Then, a young sorceress flees Aretuza after being accused of discovering the Alzur's Almanac. Hot on her trail is none other than Triss Merigold, accompanied by Dandelion, his son Julian, and Lambert.
Familiar characters in the movie: Lambert, Triss Merigold, Dandelion, Vesemir, Eskel.
Unlike Netflix trying to adapt the books (and missing the mark), Alzur's Legacy created something new within the world we love. It feels like The Witcher because it was made by people who actually understand what makes The Witcher.

“This fan film by it's quality is in my opinion superior to the Netflix adaptation. You can see that all the people care about making a good representation of the world of the Witcher. When you look and the costumes, building's ect. you can say that it looks like you imagine a medieval, fantasy world. It has the right feel. Also the soundtrack is amazing, similar to the Witcher 3 one but unique in it's way,” Vector18 on IMDb wrote.
