Dan Gilroy did it better.

Despite its dynamic premise and the fan-favorite UFC fighter in the cast, the reimagining of the late 80s Road House failed to impress the critics.

With only 62% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film barely makes it into the Fresh category, and whatever good critics have to say is mostly about Jake Gyllenhaal 's performance.

However, if you want to see something truly exciting led by the actor, there is no need to sit through the mediocrity of Prime Video 's Road House. Instead, you can spend a night with a movie that has proven to be an intriguing classic over the past 10 years.

Is Nightcrawler Worth Watching?

As one of the most critically successful films of Jake Gyllenhaal's career, Nightcrawler definitely deserves to experience a renaissance a decade after its initial release. The film follows Louis Bloom, who becomes a cameraman and dives into the most dangerous areas of nighttime Los Angeles to capture the most scandalous and gruesome moments.

Directed by Dan Gilroy and premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, the film only managed to earn $50 million at the box office. But it wasn't the money that made it so successful. Critics have given Nightcrawler a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score, and audiences have united in a cult-like following for the movie.

From Gyllenhaal's brilliant portrayal of a creepy and slightly sociopathic lead character to the dark humor in the writing, Nightcrawler is praised for the way it manages to completely immerse the viewer in the film's universe and make them cut all ties with reality for the entire 1 hour and 57 minutes of its running time.

Nightcrawler's recognition didn't end with the written reviews, but continued into the awards season. The film's cast and crew, led by Dan Gilroy and Jake Gyllenhaal, garnered 76 nominations, including an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Gilroy. 22 of those nominations resulted in a win.

If you somehow missed the thrilling phenomenon that is Nightcrawler, or want to immerse yourself in the eerie atmosphere of the film, you can rent or buy it on Vudu, Amazon Prime Video or Apple TV.
