Forget The Electric State, This 100%-Rated Crime Show Is Netflix's Hottest Release Right Now

The show, which begins as a detailed detective procedural, gradually morphs into a psychological thriller and then a heartbreaking family drama.
You don't always need $320 million and the title of the most expensive Netflix movie to impress millions of viewers, as was the case with The Electric State.
The new Netflix hit is the series Adolescence, which cost at least ten times less than the Russo brothers' film, but left an incomparably more indelible impression on viewers, earning a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
What Is Adolescence About?
A sleepy English town. Police raid the Miller home and arrest 13-year-old Jamie on suspicion of murder. His parents, Eddie and Manda, are sure it's a mistake. Their son couldn't have done it.
Or could he? As detective Luke Bascombe and psychologist Briony Ariston search for the truth, the family struggles to survive the chaos: how do you move on when your child is accused of murder?
Adolescence Is Shot in One Take To Immerse the Viewer in the Horrific Situation
Adolescence is a project by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, directed by Philip Barantini, who worked in a restaurant before coming to the movies. Hence his first feature film Boiling Point starring Graham.
Boiling Point is not only very precise in terms of the work of the cooks, but it is also filmed in one take, without editing. And now Barantini has shot Adolescence in one take.
This is not just a technique for the sake of the beauty of the frame, the viewer needs to experience this story as close to the characters as possible, without interruption, feeling the full horror of the situation with their own skin.
Adolescence's Main Asset Is Its Brilliant Acting Performances
Filming in one take requires not only professional determination and technical endurance from the filmmakers, but also scenes rehearsed to the smallest detail.
All the actors in the frame follow a precisely calibrated choreography of movements, master the text with precision and never relax for a second – the slightest mistake and everything has to be shot again. The second series was only made on the 13th attempt.
Adolescence Is a Poignant Reflection on the Modern World and Violence
In its four hours, Adolescence manages to become a very diverse project, telling the tragedy from different angles: as a private drama of several families and as a social catastrophe.
The result is a tense, dark, but convincing portrait of the modern world and a person in it: totally confused and irritated by the culture of violence that has seeped into everyday life.
