This movie is better than everything you’ve seen before.

The love of the fans for Westerns is something we can easily understand. There's no other genre that captivates viewers as much as this one.

Everything about it is exciting: the story, which is usually so typical that you know almost every other move (but are still glued to the screen), the two-dimensional characters, the non-stop gunplay and the Texas-vibey landscape.

We gave you the usual depiction of any western movie, but as the genre developed, there were sure some changes that helped create a deeper image.

One of the best movies of the genre, despite the fact that almost nobody talks about it as much as about any Costner western (of course, including Yellowstone ), is a 2016 film called Hell or High Water.

It’s actually a neo-western that features such A-listers as Chris Pine, Ben Foster and Jeff Bridges. The movie has a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and it’s not a coincidence. The fans of crime thriller Westerns discovered it years ago and since then any other neo-western appeared to be a joke to them.

What Is Hell or High Water About?

The movie revolves around two brothers ready to rob a particular bank in Texas. It seems like a fair deal to them because that same bank was about to foreclose on the mortgage on their ranch and claim the property. So they wanted to steal the money to save the land.

As the story unfolds, you come to realize that every western trope is used in a different way in this movie, thus turning it into an outstanding feature. There’s no pointless gunplay all over the place, and the villains are given a story deep enough to make us feel sympathy towards them.

“Every part of this movie is a masterpiece. Chris Pine, Ben Foster, Jeff Bridges, and Gil Birmingham absolutely nail their respective roles. The character development for each of the characters was incredible and you empathized with every character,” Redditor Boogi29 said.

Hell or High Water is available to stream on Prime – don’t miss the chance to binge it if you love both crime thrillers and westerns.
