We'll journey through universes inspired by great books, exploring everything from the dark depths of Gothic horror to a hopeless future.

2025 promises to be a real treat for fans of quality film adaptations.

The undisputed favorite of the upcoming season is Guillermo del Toro's new version of Frankenstein – a project the master has been working on for decades. However, that's not the only movie that deserves our attention.

1. 'Frankenstein'

Release Date: October 17, 2025

After countless adaptations, it seems that Mary Shelley's Frankenstein has finally found the perfect director: Guillermo del Toro, the author of Pan's Labyrinth and The Shape of Water.

Del Toro has dreamed of making this movie for years and has been trying to find funding for it since the 1990s. Netflix offered to support the project, providing a budget and a limited theatrical release.

Oscar Isaac plays Dr. Frankenstein, and Jacob Elordi, star of Euphoria, plays the monster. Elordi replaced Andrew Garfield in the project.

2. 'The Long Walk'

Release Date: September 12, 2025

Two large-scale adaptations of Stephen King's works will be released in theaters this fall: The Long Walk and The Running Man. The former tells the story of a survival game set in an alternative future.

Each year, authorities select 100 young men, aged 16 to 17, to participate in the game. Their task is to walk a long distance without slowing down. If any participant slows down, they will die.

One of the most unusual promotional campaign solutions was offered by Lionsgate: some viewers could stand on a treadmill and walk the track alongside the film's characters. Those who slowed down left the screening.

3. 'The Running Man'

Release Date: November 14, 2025

According to the plot, the economy has collapsed, so the protagonist, Ben (played by Glen Powell), participates in a ruthless reality show.

For a month, he is pursued by a group of killers, and the entire ordeal is broadcast live. His goal is to win a billion dollars to help his terminally ill daughter survive.

The movie is based on the 1987 cult sci-fi film The Running Man, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, which had only an indirect relation to the original source by King. The new version is directed by Edgar Wright.

4. 'Die, My Love'

Release Date: November 7, 2025

The new movie by director Lynne Ramsay, who also directed We Need to Talk About Kevin, was in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Ariana Harwicz.

A young couple, played by Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, moves to a country house and becomes parents. Gradually, the mother becomes overwhelmed by postpartum depression, radically changing her outlook on life.

Die, My Love received positive reviews at Cannes, with critics praising its dark portrayal of the often painful and isolating experience of motherhood.

5. 'No Other Choice'

Release Date: December 25, 2025

Korean director Park Chan-wook, creator of Oldboy, has made a new revenge story based on the novel The Ax by Donald Westlake.

The plot follows Man-soo, a paper mill worker who is laid off. To find a new job, he decides to become a serial killer and eliminate potential competitors one by one.

After the premiere screening in Venice, critics were left impressed – No Other Choice received a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences gave it a nine-minute standing ovation, and South Korea officially submitted the film for an Oscar.
