Any movie that manages to win the coveted Best Picture award at the Oscars is destined to be remembered for decades to come, with all producers looking back on it as a perfect example of the marriage of quality production and marketing.

However, sometimes the creators of Oscar-winning films get so restless to add another golden statuette to their collection that they decide to do the unthinkable – produce a sequel to the Best Picture winner.

Here are 7 weird sequels to Best Picture Oscar winners:

Yes, we know that both parts of "The Godfather" were big Oscar hits, but this tale of Mafia overlords and cocky gangsters was originally conceived as a two-parter, with Francis Ford Coppola determined to direct both parts.

The same can't be said for the abysmal sequels mentioned above, most of which were nothing more than thinly disguised cash grabs and Oscar bait. Of course, some of them were made with real passion, but all of them failed to surpass their coveted originals and failed to earn any award nominations.

However, with the sequel to the Best Picture-winning "Gladiator" releasing this year, there's a chance it could secure an award or two at the 2025 Oscars!

The Oscars 2024 will be held Sunday, March 10, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The event is to start at 7 p.m. EST.
