These acclaimed actors didn’t manage to simulate lovers’ tension between them.

When portraying a couple or simply just the two having feelings towards each other, actors can face lack of contact with their co-stars or even respect to each other. It’s their duty to do their best to create onscreen tension, nevertheless, sometimes it’s not enough to convince viewers, here are 5 examples of such weak movie couples.

Daniel Radcliffe and Bonnie Wright in the Harry Potter franchise

There is a popular opinion that Harry’s eventual love choice was shown in an awkward and poorly-built way, as there is not a trace of a sparkle between Radcliffe and Wright, who played Ginny, which should obviously be there and which is present in the original.

While in the book series this couple is described as a total match with undeniable and strong chemistry, the movies’ acting duo is not working at all.

Mark Ruffalo and Scarlett Johansson in Avengers: Age of Ultron

Despite the obvious talent of both actors, mentioned here, the love line between Hulk and Black Widow doesn’t make sense initially, and, more than that, the lack of any onscreen tension kills it to the bitter end.

Redditor @Gmork14 suggests the reason for it might be the actors’ schedules, as they had to shoot separately at different times. Pretty challenging to ooze chemistry with someone who’s not there, huh?

Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in The Hunger Games movies

Though the actors became really close friends while portraying District 12 tributes, Katniss and Peeta, in the movies their relationship was shown flat and some kind of forced. Even in the finale, when they ended up together, the actors’ acting doesn’t sell the story of the love of their lives and their only rescue in the post apocalyptic world.

Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

One of the main claims towards Luc Besson’s 2017 space movie was the complete absence of tension between the main characters, Valerian and Laureline, boldly implying even that the actors’ work was poor here. Redditor @tarantinostoes fairly admits that they were presented more like siblings or friends than lovers.

Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman in Thor

Surprisingly, the only scene where there was a piece of chemistry between Thor and Jane hides the fact that Portman was replaced with Hemsworth's wife, Elsa Pataky, due to her tough schedule. The other scenes feature zero hint of a sparkle between them.
