From the 'Umbrella Academy' Team, a Chilling Netflix Thriller — With Josh Hartnett Against the Deep

Ever since Penny Dreadful, where he held his own opposite Eva Green, Josh Hartnett has remained one of those actors I quietly keep an eye on. So when news surfaced that he’s leading an eerie new Netflix thriller set in a remote fishing town — I paid attention.
The series, still untitled, is being developed by Netflix with Umbrella Academy co-showrunner Jesse McKeown at the helm. It’s a six-part supernatural mystery set in Newfoundland, where something strange — possibly a sea monster — begins to disturb the waters.
Josh Hartnett plays a weathered fisherman trying to protect his family, his town, and a way of life that’s slowly disappearing.
Filming began earlier this month and will continue through mid-October. In first-look photos shared by What’s on Netflix, Hartnett is seen aboard a fishing boat called High Hopes — a bleakly fitting name. The cast also features Mackenzie Davis, Charlie Heaton, Natasha Henstridge, and Joshua Close.
This is Hartnett’s second major Netflix role, following Black Mirror’s 'Beyond the Sea'. He also appeared in The Bear earlier this year and starred in Fight or Flight, a well-received action film released in May. He’s clearly having a moment.
