From 'Twin Peaks' to Wedding War: Kyle MacLachlan Joins Amazon’s Latest Rom-Com

Amazon MGM is diving into chaotic romance with You Deserve Each Other, a sharp-edged rom-com based on Sarah Hogle’s novel of the same name. The story centres on Naomi and Nick, an engaged couple who’ve quietly fallen out of love — and are now secretly competing to see who’ll call off the wedding first. Think pranks, emotional sabotage, and the kind of petty warfare that only true soulmates can pull off. Naturally, it all leads back to love. Doesn’t it always?

The film is currently shooting in New York, with Never Been Kissed and He’s Just Not That Into You writers Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn directing. Penn Badgley (You) and Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus) lead the cast, playing the not-so-happy couple. Joining them are Justin Long as Nick’s best friend and, perhaps most intriguingly, Kyle MacLachlan as Nick’s father — a role that might bring more than a few surreal overtones for Twin Peaks fans.

Also appearing are Ana Gasteyer, Timothy Busfield, Delaney Rowe, Lisa Gilroy and Alyssa Limperis, rounding out a cast that’s clearly ready to lean into both awkward family dynamics and romantic chaos. With a mid-range budget and a director duo known for smart, heartfelt comedies, Amazon seems to be betting on a return to classic rom-com formulas — just with a bit more bite.

Will the sabotage spark rekindled love or total disaster? That part remains to be seen.
