Summary:

  • Law & Order is an NBC procedural drama that has been on the air since 1990 and gave a beginning to the universe of several spinoffs.
  • The show was rebooted back in 2022, and ever since then there have been a few major cast changes.
  • For season 23, the cast of Law & Order welcomes Veep alum Reid Scott.

There is no other procedural drama on modern television like Law & Order. Everyone knows it, as well as the spin-offs that have made Dick Wolf's universe on NBC so successful.

The beloved series' comeback in 2022 was a huge success, and while the show is now struggling to keep its cast together, there is still a small army of fans ready to embrace the change and push the show forward. Fortunately, good casting decisions have not let the fans down so far.

With the first look at the new character, Det. Vincent Riley, portrayed by none other than Reid Scott, audiences are now even more excited for Law & Order season 23 to hit their screens. Here's what we know so far about Scott's mysterious character.

Law & Order Season 23 New Detective

So far, there isn't much to tell about Det. Vincent Riley as a character. As far as we know, he was personally recruited to the team by Lt. Kate Dixon, with whom he is personally acquainted. What kind of connection might those two have had in the past? These and many other questions about Riley have yet to be answered.

What is known, however, is Reid Scott's impressive TV performance. The actor is best known for his portrayal of Dan Egan in HBO's Veep, as well as Gordon Ford in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. However, the filmography of the new Law & Order cast member is much more extensive and looks very promising in terms of acting.

Det. Vincent Riley was written to replace Jeffrey Donovan's Frank Cosgrove, whose departure was announced last November. Since then, viewers have been trying to guess what kind of character they'd get in his place, and so far, Riley seems perfect to help viewers deal with the regret of losing their favorite character.

For now, the only glimpse of Det. Vincent Riley in action is the short trailer released by the Law & Order team to promote the upcoming premieres.

However, viewers won't have to wait much longer as Law & Order season 23 is set to hit our screens on January 18, 2023. Be sure to tune in to NBC to not miss out!
