It’s not that Steve Rogers wouldn’t enjoy a good old shawarma.

While the first Avengers movie remains a fan favorite for purely nostalgic reasons, there is one scene in particular that caught the attention of audiences far more than anyone expected.

Adding comedic relief, the ending sequence of all the heroes gathered around a table at a local shawarma place became an absolute hit, leading to many more scenes like this in the MCU 's future.

What not many people know is that the production was so last-minute that not everyone was able to fully participate.

While all the Avengers are present, not all of them seem to be enjoying the meal. Obviously exhausted from the fight, Captain America just sits there, resting his head on the palm of his hand while everyone slowly chews their food. The scene is great for its absurd simplicity, and the lack of words only makes it funnier.

Although Steve Rogers not touching his shawarma doesn't really add or subtract anything from the scene, it's a noticeable detail that has a good reason behind it.

When the decision was made to shoot the scene at the very last moment, the actor who portrays Captain America, Chris Evans, had already started working on another project.

The role of Curtis Everett in Bong Joon Ho's 2013 sci-fi film Snowpiercer required the actor to have full facial hair, so shaving was not really an option. Just as a full beard was not an option for Steve Rogers at the time.

The compromise was to find a clever angle and get Chris Evans into a position that didn't show the lower half of his face at all.

Of course, the Makeup department has also provided a prosthetic to put on to make sure the beard didn’t find its way into the film, but it was too unrealistic to fully show.

Good thing the scene was shot and found its way into the movie's post-credits, as it gave Robert Downey Jr. 's improvised line a great payoff and added a little more humanity to otherwise very polished superhero characters.

If you want to revisit The Avengers, you can stream the movie and all of its sequels in order on Disney Plus.
