From one fantasy world to another.

Even though it felt like everyone and their mother hated King Joffrey while Game of Thrones was on the air, the way Jack Gleeson portrayed the character deserves nothing but praise.

The actor took the script and made the role his own, so Joffrey is well remembered years after his murder, even though the show has featured much worse villains than him in the years since.

Unfortunately, as is often the case with controversial characters, the passionate audience was unable to draw the line between the actor and his character. The bullying and harassment was so severe that Gleeson had to take several years off the screen to get back into acting. Now, however, he's ready to strike viewers as part of another fantasy world.

Who Is Jack Gleeson Going to Play in Sandman?

Already starring Gleeson’s Game of Thrones co-star, Gwendoline Christie, Neil Gaiman ’s The Sandman tells the story of Morpheus, the personification of dreams and nightmares. The first season ended up being such a major success on Netflix, that it got picked up for the second one, with more intriguing characters to come.

Jack Gleeson’s Puck is one of The Sandman’s newcomers, and, according to Deadline, he is going to be just as much of a menace as King Joffrey was. The only difference is, he’s not a king himself, but a mere jester.

“Puck is a malevolent hobgoblin who serves as the royal jester to King Auberon of Faerie. Puck is fascinated by mortals and enjoys nothing more than making sport of them for his own amusement,” the description reads.

This will be one of the first mainstream TV appearances for the actor, who has taken a noticeable break after wrapping Game of Thrones. Gleeson has already made a cameo in Netflix's Sex Education and appeared in a few episodes of Out of Her Mind and The Famous Five, but The Sandman looks like a promising comeback to the industry.

The first season of The Sandman was released back in August 2022, so fans are ready to end the long wait and stream the second season as soon as it comes out. Although the show is expected to release the next chapter in 2025, there is no specific date to look forward to at this time. Keep an eye out for more news and updates!
