Gaten Matarazzo thinks the show should raise the stakes by killing off more major characters.

Summary:

  • Stranger Things is rightly considered one of Netflix 's best projects thanks to its outstanding quality
  • But Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson, thinks the story needs to raise the stakes to get even better
  • Since the show's debut, only a handful of major characters have been killed off, and none of them were from the main cast

Though not entirely without its occasional hiccups, the Stranger Things TV series has somehow managed to remain consistently great throughout its four-season run, allowing it to take its well-deserved place among Netflix's most successful projects.

With a compelling story and a host of charming and well-acted characters, the show has captured the hearts of countless fans, who are now eagerly awaiting its conclusion with the upcoming fifth and final season.

The Show May Be Playing It Too Safe

However, Gaten Matarazzo, who portrays Dustin Henderson, feels that the show is playing it a little "too safe," as after four seasons it has become absolutely clear that none of the main characters are in any real danger.

During his recent visit to Mega Con Orlando, the actor shared that he thinks the show's creators should "kill more people" to raise the stakes and make it clear that no one is safe.

Fans tend to agree with Matarazzo, as at this point it is incredibly easy to predict who will not survive to the end of the season just by watching a few early episodes.

Of course, every season some characters meet their untimely end, sometimes even major ones, but none of them are veterans of the show who have been a big part of the story since the first season.

No One From The Main Cast Has Died Yet

Billy Hargrove can be considered the only exception, but the character made his debut in the second season of the show only to be killed off in the third, and his death was rather predictable after he fell under the control of the Mind Flayer.

Jim Hopper's presumed death in Season 3 shocked some fans, but others immediately began to suspect that he had actually survived, and just like that, season 4 confirmed it, showing Hopper alive and (relatively) well.

Furthermore, since the show's debut season, many viewers expected Steve Harrington to meet his demise, but so far he has survived everything the story has thrown at him, even leading fans to believe that Eddie Munson died just so Steve could live.

With all of this in mind, raising the stakes in season 5 seems like a great idea, especially considering that it will be the final season for the show, as it could make it feel even more significant and special.

Stranger Things season 5 is scheduled to be released sometime in 2025, although no specific date has been announced.
