The author’s next adaptation will bring a completely different vibe to the small screens.

Those familiar with George Martin ’s TV adaptations can confirm the author has been long known for his storylines full of bloodthirsty fights for power and repugnant deaths as the gruesome outcome of these fights.

This was started by Game of Thrones years ago and then followed by its predecessor House of the Dragon, but things are about to change in George Martin’s new upcoming adaptation serving as a spinoff to House of the Dragon.

Based on Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a refreshing perspective for the Targaryens’ history which, however, might seem like some kind of downgrade compared to Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Won’t Be That Tough to Watch, George Martin Says

Fans of Game of Thrones’ epic battles between both people on the ground and dragons in the sky might need to lower their expectations now as, according to George Martin, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a much more light-hearted story that definitely won’t bring along its predecessors’ atmosphere.

“It's a little softer. It's a little more humorous. I hope the audience will be open to that kind of change”, the author stated in an interview with Collider.

Martin then added that he had already seen the show’s first season and has nothing but praise to offer, which is a good sign considering the writer’s constant clashes with Game of Thrones’ creators in the past.

As the show has been getting things ready for its first season’s release sometime this year, George Martin couldn’t help repeatedly sharing some more details about what’s in store for his next adaptation.

However, for many of his readers the revelation about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ “softness” isn’t quite news since the writer already reflected on the issue in his personal blog back in January.

“Viewers who are looking for action, and more action, and only action… well, this one may not satisfy you. There's a huge fight scene here, as exciting as anyone could ask for, but there are no dragons this time around, no huge battles, no white walkers. This is a character piece, and its focus is on duty and honor, on chivalry and all it means. I hope you will love the show as much as I do”, he wrote, also suggesting fans might expect the series to premiere in the fall this year.
