Before you ask: no, it’s not about The Winds of Winter. That one isn’t a particularly “new” project by now, is it?

Ever since HBO picked up his A Song of Ice and Fire series and turned it into the biggest TV show ever, George Martin has been an increasingly busy man. Apart from working on countless of his own projects, the author is actively involved in many others, from TV shows and movies to video games and co-writing with others.

There are always countless rumors surrounding GRRM’s work and projects, and while he shoots some of them down, others he deliberately fuels just for fun.

George Martin Teases Huge Developments

One of the GRRM’s most fundamental and massive off-topic works in the past few years was his developing the lore and the world of Elden Ring, a massive and hugely popular open-world soulslike game that took over the market in 2022. The author wrote an amazing universe and some great plots, and he was just awarded for it.

And it wouldn’t have been Martin if he didn’t use the opportunity to tease fans. After telling about his Nebula Award for Game Writing to Elden Ring, he addressed some peculiar rumors — and blatantly fueled more speculations as he did it.

“Oh, and about those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on Elden Ring… I have nothing to say. Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What rumor?” Martin wrote in his Not a Blog, and we could see his snide smile as we read it.

Elden Ring Live-Action Adaptation Makes Sense

These past few years have been huge for video games adaptations. The genre that has been previously the punishment for hubris — as no one could ever get it right — has become a new staple of Hollywood, with more and more video game-based movies and TV shows being released, announced, and worked on.

Elden Ring live-action: yay or nay?

Seeing the immense success of Elden Ring, its huge fan base, and strong names behind it — obviously, since it was George Martin who wrote it — an Elden Ring live-action adaptation could genuinely make sense. The dark and hopeless world of this game is equally as beautiful, and if someone like HBO picked it up, it could certainly carve out an entirely new niche in the movie market: soulslike movies.
